Keep Praying, God Is Listening
This weekend, Jesus tells us a story about prayer, about not giving up when it feels like our prayers aren’t being answered. He speaks of a widow who keeps coming to a judge, asking for justice. She has no influence, power, or one to speak for her, but she refuses to quit. Day after day, she shows up. Finally, the judge gives in, not because he’s good or compassionate, but because he’s tired of hearing from her.
Now, Jesus isn’t saying that God is like that judge, far from it! He’s saying, if even someone like that unjust judge will eventually listen, how much more will your loving Father in heaven hear you when you pray?
We’ve all been in that place, haven’t we? We pray for something, healing, peace in our family, and strength in a hard time, and we don’t see anything change. It’s easy to wonder, “Is God even listening?” But this Gospel reminds us that prayer is not about getting God to do what we want; it’s about staying close to Him no matter what.
Persistent prayer shapes our hearts. It keeps us rooted in faith, even when life doesn’t make sense. Every time you pray, even when you don’t have the words or are tired or discouraged, you say, “Lord, I trust You. I’m not giving up on you.” And that’s the kind of faith Jesus talks about when He asks, “When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on earth?”
So maybe this week, when you’re tempted to stop praying because you’re not seeing results, remember that widow. Remember her quiet courage and stubborn hope. Keep coming back to God. Keep talking to Him. He hears you, every time.
Because the truth is, God doesn’t get tired of you. He doesn’t roll His eyes when you come to Him again with the same prayer. He delights in hearing from His children. And even when the answer takes time, He’s already at work, in ways we can’t yet see.
So don’t give up. Keep praying. Keep trusting. And know that in your persistence, God draws you closer to His heart.
